Beginning My Second Journey

After the excitement of last week regarding obtaining a mentor, I found myself even more excited to be conducting my first, virtual, mentor visit this week. Leading up to the meeting I poured over every resource that my mentor had sent me in order to have some kind of background knowledge leading into the visit, so that we could cover as much as possible. I was also trying to make a good impression on my mentor so that he would see the drive and determination I have to truly learn from his expertise and get all that I can out of my final project and this opportunity.

We sufficiently covered what exactly I would be putting together for my final product, in hopes that I would be able to complete my proposal and calendar for that product this coming week. Additionally, we covered many of the resources at my disposal and the details of where to start. I feel as though my mentor is truly embracing his responsibilities as a mentor, as he gave me a good bit of things to complete before our next meeting and talked with me about what exactly he expects and how I can get the most out of the mentorship. While I was initially a bit overwhelmed by the amount of work that I was given after this first meeting, I found myself very excited to begin work with the confident thought that I could handle the workload and subsequently be offered more opportunities and maybe even make my mentor proud.

I definitely enjoyed the research and more independent aspect of the last semester, but I think that the mentorship from this semester will allow me to grow and develop as a young professional. This week will be spent primarily crafting my product proposal and then working on completing different aspects of this project to truly get the ball rolling on this new and exciting endeavor.
