After doing some preliminary research regarding the different specializations of chemical engineering, I have been able to narrow my focus onto something that truly interests me. One of the amazing things about the chemical engineering field is that there are many different directions that a person could go into after obtaining their degree. I do not particularly enjoy biology or the medical field so I believe I am going to focus my research on material synthesis and processing. There are still many questions I have on the different specializations and while I think this is a good place to start I am planning to continue exploring the other areas of the field.

I am definitely looking forward to some of the interviews that are hopefully going to happen later this year. I think this will help me gain, not only a better understanding of my prospective field, but also a better insight into the different types of specializations that are available to chemical engineers.

The research I am currently pursuing is vital to me understanding the field and being able to truly learn from a prospective mentor. I have continued to do work in an online course of introduction to organic chemistry which has been quite interesting and have started searching for a resource on engineering and chemical engineering basics. While I have taken an engineering course through the FISD Career and Technical Center I do not feel as though I have a good understanding of major principles of this field. Seeing this gap in my knowledge has prompted me to do a deeper dive into my research.

Overall I am very excited for the future complex concepts that I am going to learn. Chemical engineering is not typically something that is taught in high school, so I am looking forward to all that I will learn, from not only my research, but also the professionals I will be able to encounter later this year.
